Five Simple SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Techniques

The soul of any website e-business is traffic, and good webmaster knows the best type of traffic is natural. The reason behind this is that it is extremely targeted and is FREE!.  The tough part is getting your site's keyword on top ranks. The only purpose of this article is to provide a few simple, important, and effective, search engine friendly techniques (you can also say white hat techniques) to help to increase traffic on your site and your site's ranking as well.

1.Use meta tags.Work on two tags. The "title" tag, and the "description" tag not over "keywords" tag, as the major search engines have placed less and less weight on this one, and some would argue that this tag has no weight at all.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT KEYWORDS- Search engines evaluate keyword weight, keyword prominence, and keyword density while determining a site's ranking. All three are calculated individually for the page.

2. Place navigational links (and JavaScript) at the right, or at the bottom, not on the left, of the page. When spiders crawls your site, they read from the top left to the bottom right. Search engines place prominence on the first 100 words or text on the site. So these must not be some navigational links or JAVASCRIPT. This will ensure that spiders crawl what's important on your page rather than navigational links and javascript.

3. Place "alt tags" on all images. Since spiders cannot "read" pictures or images. The only way they knows what an image is about is by reading the alt tag you placed. Alt tags can be made easily and plays an important role in your site's ranking.

4. Place the keywords on bottom as well. As the Spiders read first few words they also read last words of your page and place more weight on first and last words of your page. So put more emphasis at the conclusion. But if you have all of your navigational links and JavaScript at the bottom, your relevant page text could end well before the HTML does.  Another simple and easy way to have your keywords at the bottom of your page is to include them in the copyright information.

5. The Anchor Text of your links. Anchor text is the actual linking text on a site. It what the user clicks on to navigate to that particular site/page. If a search engine finds many links to your site using specific word, then the search engine concludes what your site is about. This is overlooked quite often, but it seems to have a very large impact on your search engine rankings for a particular keyword. Your anchor text needs to be the keyword or phrase you are trying to rank. Try to avoid anchor text like "Click Here" or www.xyz.com.
While runnig the reciprocal link campaign do use variations of your text. Because if the search engine notices every link of your site same than it will put less weight. The reason behind this that search engine put more weight or give prefernce to naturally occuring links. Use different but relevant anchor text to affect your keywords ranking as it seems more natural.
